Rock the Mellor

Aug 26, 2010

Inspired by Mod/Early Punk culture, well worn keepsakes, cafe racer motorcycles, leather jackets and taking its name from Punk icon, John Mellor of the Clash, "the Mellor" is a new addition to the already amazing collection of Nixon watches. A simple, mid-century inspired peice that wont go out of fashion anytime soon.

To celebrate the arrival of the Mellor, we offer you 15% off all Nixon watches for this weekend only. To redeem this discount use the coupon code "nixon01" in the "MY CART" section.

If you get one we'll be jealous.

Best in Class

Aug 25, 2010

Late of the Pier's new single "Best in Class" came out in March and although the song is a nice effort, we felt the video was a tad boring with a dance class of hot chicks shaking around in sexy garb.

Jump forward to a few months and the remixes have been done. One that stands out is from the godfathers of the remix, Soulwax. However not content with remixing the song, the original video gets remixed too! Is this a sign of things to come?

Whilst the first video is all Gossip Girl, the remixed version is very much True Blood!

Some of you may have seen some of the Panesar Simone AW2010 range at a store. Their fine attention to detail and imported fabrics from Italy are two of the many things that stand out about this new South African brand. To get a better idea of what they are all about and to view the entire Spring Summer 2010/11 range, they are throwing an event called 'Urban Affair' consisting of a presentation of contemporary art and design products curated by Haas and a live performance by Jack (they guy modelling above) Mantis Band. For more info on the event go here.

Here's a quote from Simone of Panesar Simone:

Following the success of the Panesar Simone AW2010 collection for women, for Spring Summer 2010/11 the collection has been extended to include menswear. Both the womens and mens collections are a deliberate mix of relaxed and structured pieces, the combination of which creates a casual yet refined silhouette. In addition to Panesar Simone's unique 'look', the other key elements that distinguish Panesar Simone from other brands are the use of pure luxurious and textured fabrics and attention to detail in design. We chose Jack Mantis, of the Jack Mantis Band, to be the face of our menswear for Spring Summer 2010/11 as he is a talented, creative artist with a very 'real' quality that people can identify with.

Cool, see you there!

NIKE78 is an exciting new project created by Paul Jenkins and inspired by NIKE. Creatives involved have been given a brand new pair of NIKE shoes and asked to use sport as inspiration to challenge their function. The full project is being documented in the NIKE78 online gallery. An exhibition of the work is planned for the London Design Festival 2010.

We've seen this, done that, some of you may say and a store favourite book, Art and Sole definately got to grips with this topic, but some of the work showcased here truly takes things to the next level.

Above are a few of our favourites, but really, theres plenty more where these came from.

Lord of the Logos

May 25, 2010

New at a store, 'Lord of the Logos', is a collection of work by Christophe Szpajdel, an artist whose fans in the underground black metal community worship him as the Lord of the Logos.

Although we are not into the whole worship Satan, burn a church and smear pig blood on your face type thing, we can appreciate the amazing artwork in the book and the inspiration for the various logos created by Christophe.

Many of us have, at least one time in their life, owned a heavy metal band tee or album and although you wont find the likes of Guns n Roses, AC/DC or Megadeth in here, you will most certainly remember that the art work for most heavy metal bands was one of the things that first got your attention.

Check it out now at a store and online soon.
