Some of you may have seen some of the Panesar Simone AW2010 range at a store. Their fine attention to detail and imported fabrics from Italy are two of the many things that stand out about this new South African brand. To get a better idea of what they are all about and to view the entire Spring Summer 2010/11 range, they are throwing an event called 'Urban Affair' consisting of a presentation of contemporary art and design products curated by Haas and a live performance by Jack (they guy modelling above) Mantis Band. For more info on the event go here.

Here's a quote from Simone of Panesar Simone:

Following the success of the Panesar Simone AW2010 collection for women, for Spring Summer 2010/11 the collection has been extended to include menswear. Both the womens and mens collections are a deliberate mix of relaxed and structured pieces, the combination of which creates a casual yet refined silhouette. In addition to Panesar Simone's unique 'look', the other key elements that distinguish Panesar Simone from other brands are the use of pure luxurious and textured fabrics and attention to detail in design. We chose Jack Mantis, of the Jack Mantis Band, to be the face of our menswear for Spring Summer 2010/11 as he is a talented, creative artist with a very 'real' quality that people can identify with.

Cool, see you there!

Legends of Unity

Jun 3, 2010

Kehinde Wiley and Puma collaboration 'Legends of Unity' has created quite a stir. Puma sponsors no less than 12 African national teams! With this in mind its no wonder their lifestyle products are full of rich African inspired themes, fabrics and patterns.

Watch the Puma 'Of the Same Earth' video to see how Kehinde is inspired by the different dynamics of African culture. The video really brings home how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful and diverse continent as Africa. Ultimately however the true message from Kehinde is that we are all of the same earth.

The Facehunter Show

May 3, 2010

Stylish, Insightful, hysterical, sexy and cool, are just a few of the words you can use to sum up the Facehunter Show. Off the back of his now legendary style blog 'Facehunter', this mini online show moves effortlessly around the globe providing us with a glimpse into the many levels of our creative cultures. Its well balanced approach that sits perfectly between Bruno style (although this guy is truly stylish) craziness and conventional interviewing, leaves you wondering whether some of his subjects are for real.

Hi-fashion, street fashion, art and music all get a say here. From encounters with the uber famous to interviews with cult fashion brand owners and never before heard of bands, it's all good on this show.

Coachella is the latest episode, followed by a couple of our favourites below. We will definitely be posting new episodes moving forward.

The first copies of the Facehunter book are in this week, so watch this space.

Our new home

Dec 1, 2009

There are many reasons why we've been a bit quiet of late! The main reason being our new home in the Woodstock Industrial Centre (WiC). I could waffle on for hours about how great it is to be in such a creative space, amongst so many different kinds of businesses and people. The different events that are happening around us, more recently the Night of 1000 drawings. And last but not least our new mini ramp!

I thought I'd reign it in to a few pics and links, be sure to check out photographer Dave Malan's ongoing photo essay on the building and it's various tennants and more on the 1000 Drawings.

You can also visit the WiC website. We will  be posting on the various comings and goings here on our blog.

We promise not to be so quiet again.

Blood of the Young is a blog and zine project that launched in January 2009. They like young people, film, new aesthetics, interviews, print trades, collaborations, diy, and photos that are not already on a million other photo-pools and blogs.

I am no connoisseur when it comes to photography and what is considered a great and not so great attempt at capturing the moment, but these guys and the people they blog about seem to have an eye for it. The zine showcases the best young talent out there and they try keep as much of the work as exclusive as possible.

We promise we'll try our hardest to bring the gems to you. Until then, enjoy some of our favourites.

I was watching MTV recently, saw an amazing skit of these hairy transforming yeti-like creatures marching across the screen. I'd love to know if Nick Cave had anything to do with it.

Nick Cave (not the legend that sings) studied fiber arts at the Cranbrook Academy of Art and is Associate Professor and Chairman of the Fashion Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His sound-suits are wearable mixed-media sculptures that incorporate every material imaginable, to make sounds unique to each garment. more info here.
